Welcome fall: tips for your jewelry to shine through the layers

That time of the year has come again! After a couple of months of fun in the sun, fall is upon us, which means the layering must start in order for us to be protected against the low temperatures. Layering is one of the most important things to do during fall and winter because it protects you from the cold while at least preparing you to not be stuck in heavy clothes in indoor spaces (and suffer from the heat along the way).

And while we love layering in the fall, there is a downside when it comes to jewelry: you can barely see it under so many clothes that we often forgot about our favorite accessories for months, and when we are ready to use them again, they might not be as trendy as they were when we got them. So the real question is: should we give up our favorite jewelry in the winter? Absolutely not! Instead, what you need to learn are some tips and tricks that are going to help you mix your cute fall and winter clothes with your all-time favorite accessories, or those pieces that you already have an eye for the holidays (did anybody started their Christmas list already?).

The first thing that you need to know is that there are very few accessories that you can’t use daily. Unless we are talking about something fancy (for security reasons) or something made specifically for one occasion (i.e jewelry that you use at the beach), you can definitely take advantage of your entire stash to brighten up your fall and winter looks. As always, creativity is the limit!

A splash of color. With your fall-winter wardrobe being mostly neutrals and dark colors, you can turn to your accessories for that much-needed splash of color. Think of bold colors like red, yellow or orange (the favorite of fall) to brighten up an outfit full of neutrals. Think also about color coordination: if you are wearing something more related to white, for example, use bright in the family of hot colors. If, on the contrary, we are talking about darker tones, try something in the cold family: purple, blue, greens.

Proportions matter. Scarfs, sleeves, turtlenecks and other things that cover you are normally big accessories and limit your chances, which is why you must watch the proportions of your jewelry for them to shine through. Try big earrings if your neck is covered with a scarf, or interesting cocktail rings If, on the other hand, you have a turtleneck, take advantage of it and play with your necklaces to create a nice contrast. In any case, bracelets are always a yes!

Careful with the pulls. You might think is a silly warning, but sweater weather comes with a lot of knit items that are not always the most jewelry friendly. When wearing a sweater or anything knitted, you must be extremely careful of jewelry that can cause pulls or other damages to your clothes. You don’t want the uncomfortable moment of getting caught on something, let alone your favorite sweater ruined!

Necklaces over everything. Normally, we don’t of necklaces as something we use over things that cover our neck entirely. However, if you want to try a bold statement, fall is the moment to try things like a contrasting necklace over a turtleneck. Furthermore, necklaces are always a way to adorn every top or dress, even with a scarf on top (because you must take it off eventually). Make sure you are pairing your neckline with the right type of necklace, for which we created a whole post.
